IHP is thrilled to team up with experts from Penn State University, Millersville University, and Drexel University to bring “Essential Tools for International Student Support”, a 3-part training for higher ed staff and faculty.

The training will provide insights and strategies for campus-wide international support, from advice on processes and policies to best practices for intercultural communication.

IHP had the pleasure of welcoming a group of high school counselors from across Pakistan to Philadelphia on Sunday. A tour of Old City is a great way to learn the basics of Philly as a city steeped in history, forged in liberty, and grown through tolerance.

In 1908 a Philadelphian, Alpheus Waldo Stevenson, met a group of students from China on Penn’s campus and began to learn about the challenges faced by international students coming to the USA. What started with a weekly tradition of hosting students for dinner turned into a dedicated house on Penn’s campus, and later became an independent nonprofit, International House Philadelphia. This photo is from 1912, and if you attend our programs these days you’ll notice we STILL often use hand-written nametags!
